James Thompson statement on Gannon public schools decision

WICHITA, Kan. – James Thompson, U.S. Army veteran, civil rights attorney and Democratic nominee for the April 11 Congressional Special Election, released the following statement regarding today’s Kansas Supreme Court’s ruling on Kansas public education funding:

“As a father with a daughter in Kansas public schools, I welcome the Kansas Supreme Court's unanimous order to undo Gov. Brownback's disastrous agenda that has damaged our public education. Brownback and his rubber-stamp allies have for years attacked our public education system, and career politicians like State Treasurer Ron Estes enabled them the whole way.

“Today is a win for Kansas families, teachers, and schools against Brownback insiders. Our system of government requires an independent judiciary can check and balance the other two co-equal branches of government. This is a vital element of our democracy.

“I look forward to Brownback and his allies finally complying with our independent judiciary's decision protecting our future, and Kansas’ Constitutional right to an education.”
